Thank You Robot

I'd like to take a moment to thank a nice robot that contacted me and let me crash at his place for the weekend. I guess this blog was a good idea after all.

Failed Robbery

I was walking back from home depot where I got dropped off when some guy tried to steal my backpack. I didn't get a good look at his face, all I know is he looked kinda of brown, probably middle eastern (didn't look Hispanic). He tried to just grab my backpack and pull it off me, but I managed to wrestle a bit and get my hand on one of the arm loops. We both fell on the ground and he got up and took off. I began chasing him for a few steps but then I stopped, since I realized he didn't take anything so why bother (also I'm really tired).

What really sucks is that he broke my bag while trying to steal it; the left ear loop is torn so now I have to carry it on one shoulder until I can get some needle and thread. None of you would happen to have a spare backpack, do ya?

A Prize for the Darkest Wizards of All

I was watching a dubbed video about symmetry while reviewing Spanish for my upcoming bright future (great video by the way, if you speak Spanish then I highly recommend it), when I stumbled upon something very interesting (at least to me). If you are up to date with the scientific community then this is far from news, but as some of you may be aware, almost 12 years ago the Clay Mathematics Institute of Cambridge, Massachusetts (CMI) created an academic competition of sorts, in hopes of raising interest in mathematics among the general public - the Seven Millennium Prize Problems.
The seven Millennium Prize Problems were chosen by the founding Scientific Advisory Board of CMI, which conferred with leading experts worldwide. The focus of the board was on important classic questions that have resisted solution for many years.
Whoever solves any single problem gets $1,000,000 and if you solve all seven then you get the whole $7,000,000. In March 18, 2010, the first $1,000,000 was awarded to some russian for solving the PoincarĂ© conjecture - that means there's only $6,000,000 left for the taking.

I am far from well versed in mathematics, and the odds of me solving one of these problems may be less favorable than that of winning the lottery, but I've been looking for a motivator to master this black magic (as my dad used to call it when I was little in order to get me excited about learning it) and I gotta tell you; after learning about this, I got about six million motives to lurk the mathematics section in B&N more often.

Spare A Corner for a Robot

This is kind of awkward for me to ask, but as I mentioned in a comment in my previous post, it is very hard for me to keep a lot of things because I don't have a place to store them. I only have a backpack to store my belongings, and it is currently packed with clothes, some tools and hygienic items, and some space for my laptop.

I used to carry more stuff in the past, but they kept getting stolen or mistreated due to exposure from hiding it in humid places and such. It would really help me if one of you guys could help me out and let me keep some stuff at your place. I'm not asking for a room (or a whole closet) or a key to your front door; all I really need is a safe place in the cities I cruise (at least one in DC/Nova, preferably another few in Virginia Beach VA, Baltimore MD, Atlantic City NJ, Philadelphia PA, and Columbia SC).

If you have the space and generosity to help me out then let me know in the comments, and leave some contact info or email me at maybeicanbeyourhometonight@gmail.com

Seasonal Re-Assessment

It's getting really cold in DC/Northern Virginia, and even though Spring is supposed to be just around the corner I want to go to South Carolina to get the temperature up by just a few more degrees. The further south I go, the harder it is for me to find work or generous people, but the easier it is to find shelter (both official and unofficial), so I like to lurk around this area because there's a nice balance between the two. Weather is kind of a wildcard here; winters can be kind of cold and snowy, and summers can be unbearably hot.

Today is a bad day to pan handle, but a great day for entertaining in the streets. I wish I had a guitar.

Inventory

I need to replenish my inventory. I used to have a lot of crap in 2009 and 2010, but I sold/traded/discarded most of it eventually because it was too heavy and burdensome to haul around. However, this is gonna be one lame story if I don't at least have a camera to post some pictures.

I'm going to divide inventory in two sections; a blog list where I get stuff that would help enhance the blog, and a Money-Making tools list that will help me reach my objectives faster. What else do you guys suggest?

Blog List:
  • Camera
  • Dragon Dildo
Money-Making Tools List:
  • Storage place
  • Power Tools
  • Guitar

Getting Out Of Homelessness

I don't like being homeless. It sucks, to be honest. I've met some homeless people that seem to enjoy it; they love the lack of responsibilities and the general focus on only their most primary needs like food or shelter. I hate that. Don't get me wrong, I love my life, otherwise I would have off'd myself long ago. However, I don't plan on spending the rest of my life in this state.

I have a plan:
  1. Save $100,000
  2. Go to South America
  3. Start a new life
Of course, there are several details to this plan that I have yet to mention, and a whole lot other details that I may not be able to predict until I have to deal with them.

How to save up to $100,000
As mentioned in a comment below, I may be homeless but I still try to find work every day. When construction work or craigslist gigs fail me, I resort to panhandling (which sucks, horribly). I manged to save around $40,200 in cash during the time I've been homeless; having to pay no rent or utilities for this long does have its benefits. I believe in 3 or 4 years I will be able to hit my $100,000 mark.

That should be the easy part.

How to get to South America

  • Independent ground travel: This would be the hardest path to take. It'd involve sneaking across borders (in case I can't enter them legally without having my luggage searched), buying motorcycles to cover greater distances, until reaching my final destination. It would probably be the greatest adventure of my life.
  • Take buses and trains: This makes me very nervous; so many things could go wrong, like the bus or train getting robbed or getting in a crash, or someone taking my stuff away if I'm not careful enough.
  • Fly: It'd involve getting a temporary residence to get a passport, and then just spending a grand or so on a one-way plane ticket. I'd also have to open a bank account and deposit my money there, since I don't think I can just fly with $100,000 in cash in my carry-on. I have to look more into how I'd go about withdrawing my money once I'm in South America.

How to start a new life in South America
This part I haven't really thought out yet. I just figured that if I can make it there in one piece with $100,000 in my pocket, I'll have an easier time getting back on my feet than if I stayed here. Business ideas so far:

  • Open a logistics business: I hear in Peru it's pretty good - but dangerous - business to buy a truck and transport goods around and outside the capital. I have to look more into this, but from what an acquaintance told me I could be looking at $2,500/trip and only one or two high jack/robbery attempts per trip.

I'll keep updating this plan (and thus this post) regularly as my think tank helps me give it shape.
